Lead Scientist/Engineer — Candidate will develop and lead projects in the area of roadway material science.  As part of this effort draws conclusions, develops recommendations for future work, and monitors progress of scheduled work and budget.  Prepares or contributes to the preparation of reports for publication and/or presentation to clients or the professional community.  Regularly makes positive contributions to marketing and project development activities.  Contributes to or directs the preparation, presentation, and follow-up of major-scale proposals that can be cross-cutting.  Contributes to the establishment of work schedules and budgets and recommends personnel for up-coming, large-scale projects.

Position requires PhD or equivalent experience in chemical engineering, physics and/or physical chemistry.  Requires the ability to correlate rheological properties to chemical structures that exist in asphalts and polymer-modified asphalts.  Background in petroleum engineering, transport properties or rheology is required.  The ultimate goal of this work is to develop test methods that predict the long-term performance of asphalt pavement.  The individual in this position must have experience in coordinating work with other senior-level professionals, and mentoring junior-level professionals and technicians.  Experience in project scheduling and costing, and working with government and commercial clients is required.  Candidate must have strong written and oral communication skills.

Lead Engineer/Scientist — Western Research Institute (WRI) is seeking a qualified candidate in the area of liquid fuels, catalysis and synthesis. We seek a motivated, broad-thinking scientist/engineer to provide intellectual leadership and guidance to a well-funded research group.

Position requires a PhD degree and a strong record of publication, demonstrated research competence, evidence of the ability to conduct, fund and lead an active research program as well as the ability to develop new and innovative directions in research.  The successful candidate will work closely with the Vice President of Energy Production and Generation.  The position provides ample opportunity to coordinate activities with ongoing interdisciplinary research in coal and biomass combustion and conversion, hydrogen production technologies, gas clean-up technologies and advanced power generation concepts.
