WRI annually hosts the Petersen Asphalt Research Conference, the only conference of its type dedicated to the presentation of current research on the chemistry and behavior of asphalt. 

With the Federal Highway Administration, we organize the Pavement Performance Prediction Symposium, which focuses each year on a significant topic in pavement performance. 

The Subbituminous Energy Coalition is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to maintaining subbituminous coal as an environmentally acceptable and competitive fuel source.  The SEC meets three times a year.

With the National Centre for Upgrading Technology (NCUT), WRI is a sponsor and organizer of the Conference on the Upgrading and Refining of Heavy Oil, Bitumen and Synthetic Crude Oil, held every other year in Edmonton, Alberta.
